Honolulu Orchid Society’s 2025 Orchid Show & Plant Sale

“A Whirlwind of Orchids” is the theme for the 86th Annual Orchid Show and Plant Sale on Oct. 10 and 11 at the Washington Middle School cafeteria in town. Sponsored by The Honolulu Orchid Society, the event will include free sessions, orchid displays, plant sales, and more. I hope to have more details for you soon - stay tuned!

Friday, Sept. 26

Community Work Day: Join Hui o Ko'olaupoko in clearing invasive plant species from the Kaha Garden at the Kawainui Marsh in Kailua from 9 am-noon. Click here to sign up.

Saturday, Sept. 27

Plant Share: Bring cuttings, plants and/or seeds to the Pacific Palisades Community Recreation Center starting at 4 pm. Setup is from 4-5 pm. Plant share starts at 5 pm. Community Work Days

  • Volunteer to survey and remove devil weed from 9 am-1 pm at Pupukea Paumalu State Park Reserve in the North Shore. Click here to sign up.

Workshops

  • Learn to Worm Workshop + Kit: Get started with vermicomposting at this monthly hands-on session 9-11 am at the NREM Greenhouses at UH Manoa. Cost is $95 - click here to register.

  • Spooky Terrarium (BYOT): Get into the Halloween spirit by creating your own terrarium complete with festive, Halloween-themed accessories from 10 am-noon at Mari’s Gardens in Mililani. Cost is $40 - click here to register.

  • Spooky Terrarium (Keiki): There will be two hands-on workshops from 10-11 am and then at 11 am-noon at Mari's Garden in Kaka'ako is designed especially for keiki. Little ones will get to create their very own Halloween themed terrarium to take home. Cost is $49 - click here to register.

As you might expect, it was bananas at Slow Food Oahu’s annual festival celebrating the most popular fruit in the world (according to Guinness Word Records).
