November is the start of rainy season in the islands, and so the state officially celebrates Arbor Day on Nov. 7. Tree and plant giveaways have already started, and you can find a great listing of events by island on the DLNR website.
Below is a curated list of Arbor Day activities on Oahu; some have not been included because they are already sold out or at maximum capacity (such as the Arbor Day Tree Adoption in Kailua on Nov. 8)
Friday, Nov. 7
Aloha Tree Alliance (Kuliouou)
Kuli’ou’ou Valley Trail, from 8-11 am
Bring the family (keiki and kupuna!) for the weekly Aloha Friday Watering at the Kuli’ou’ou Ridge Trail, where volunteers will help remove invasive species, plant native plants, and receive a tree (just for Arbor Day). Honolulu Mayor’s Arbor Ceremony & Tree Adoption (Waianae)
Puʻu o Hulu Community Park (Waianae)
Friday Nov. 7 from 9 am-noon, Saturday Nov. 8 from 9 am-1 pm
Mayor’s Arbor Day Ceremony in partnership with Ka Waihona Public Charter School. We will be planting 15 trees with the students and hosting an ʻāina education fair and tree giveaway. We will continue the tree giveaway on Saturday, November 8th at the park for community members who may not be available for the Friday event.
UH Mānoa Campus Arboretum Arbor Day (Manoa)
UH Manoa Hawai’i Hall 9:30-10:30 am ~ Planting and discussion
Maile Way lawn next to Gilmore Hall 11 am-2 pm ~ Free tree adoption
Saturday, Nov. 8
Mālama Mānoa & Mānoa Outdoor Circle (Manoa)
College Hill, 2234 Kamehameha Ave. from 8 am-noon
Mālama Mānoa and Mānoa Outdoor Circle sponsor the 21st Annual 1000 Plant Giveaway featuring more than a thousand free plants and trees of 30+ varieties. Large plants and merchandise will also be on sale.

Saturday, Nov. 15
E Ulu Mau Ke Kaiāulu O Waiʻanae: A Tree to Table Experience (Nanakuli)
Kalanihookaha Community Learning Center in Nānākuli, 9-11 am
Space is limited at this free family Arbor Day celebration that features hands-on planting, cooking demos, keiki educational activities and more.
