Mayor Rick Blangiardi has declared September as Honolulu Community Gardening Month in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Honolulu Recreational Community Gardening Program, and everyone is invited for a special celebration on Saturday Sept. 13 from 10 am-2 pm at the Foster Botanical Garden.

On that day, admission to the garden is free as are all the activities including family-friendly educational displays and demonstrations, garden tours, entertainment and music, food trucks and more. Carpooling and using public transportation is encouraged as there is limited street parking available.

Living History Project

Historical photos of the community gardens will be shared - if you have a photograph to include, please send them via email to [email protected]. The Gardens Council has been collecting historical photos of the gardens and is asking former gardeners, family members and community members to share photos from their own albums.

More information

We will be sharing more details about the event as they are finalized. For now, you can go to the dedicated website for an Event Map, virtual tour of the Foster Botanical Garden, mayoral proclamation and more.
