Learn how to make seed balls 9-11 am at Surfrider’s Kaka’ako Ocean Friendly Garden with hundreds of native seeds to be thrown out into forested areas as great tools for restoration and rebuilding native seed banks. Engage with the Koʻolau Mountains Watershed Partnership (KMWP) outreach team to learn the importance of our native forests. Help protect local coastlines from erosion, sequester carbon, remove invasive species, and support local ecosystems.

"After the Roots: Nurturing New Plants - caring for young gardenia plants" will take place 9:30-11:30 am at Lyon Arboretum's Children's Learning Center Classroom. Rooting a cutting is like welcoming new life—it’s only the first step! In this follow-up to our propagation class, you’ll discover how to guide your young plants into healthy growth. We’ll cover proper watering techniques, when and how to repot, choosing the best growing media, managing light exposure, selecting the right fertilizers, and protecting your plants from pests. Botanist Dr. Nat Bletter, flavormeister of Madre Chocolate. leads a monthly forage through the lush greenery of Makiki and Tantalus to educate and enlighten participants on the virtues of eating slow off the land.
